The Woodlands Township Board of Directors will move forward with a reforestation effort that focuses on the hardest hit areas of The Woodlands, Texas but will reserve part of the reforestation budget for continued tree removal.
The board approved a $121,500 bid to Texas Tree Depot for the purchase of 30-gallon trees and awarded a bid of $72,183 to Boone's Landscaping for 30-gallon trees. An additional $5,000 would go to participate in the annual Arbor Day event for the planting of seedlings in the township open space reserves. The remaining $181,317 will be reallocated for tree removal.
John Powers, assistant general manager for community services, said the reason the staff recommended the larger trees was because some of the hardest hit areas were behind homes in The Woodlands.
The township will be able to plant about 1,300 30-gallon trees with the $193,682 approved by the board.
""We were really looking at getting larger trees to plug the holes where The Woodlands no longer looked like The Woodlands,"" he said.
