The Woodlands YMCA celebrated a ground breaking service on YMCA Outdoor Adventure Center, "Phase One"" of their latest project, located Creekside Park in The Woodlands, Tx. The Woodlands Development Company donated the 21 acre site. The YMCA Outdoor Adventure Center, adjacent to the 1700 George Mitchell Preserve, is scheduled to open in May, 2010, located in The Woodlands newest Village of Creekside Park. The Creekside YMCA is set to be a special facility. A primary element will be reconnecting kids and families with nature, the attention to outdoor recreation and bringing back the sense of adventure to the family outdoor experience.

Serving up to 500 youth from The Woodlands, Tomball, and surrounding communities, the YMCA's next great adventure features a 21-acre recreation site and centerpiece lodge style building which will be the home to our Summer Day Camp programs. Team building activities, leadership skills development and creative, interactive programs are offered to summer campers by caring young adult role models. In addition to summer, camps offered during the holidays and spring break are set to also feature team building ropes courses, canoeing, hiking trails, outdoor chapel and theater, and nature education experiences.

For expanded outdoor education opportunities, the Creekside YMCA Outdoor Adventure Center will be available to local schools. The outdoor classroom expands greatly each individual student's prospect to learn self-reliance and to reach full learning potential as well as offers many chances for team-oriented projects at all grade levels. For The Woodlands YMCA, the 14,000 square foot lodge, will feature a large multi-purpose room for special events, community meetings, group exercise and expanded programming opportunities.
