The Woodlands Township lifeguards successfully defended their title by recently winning the Texas State Lifeguard Championships. This is the fifth year in a row, and sixth year out of seven, that the Township has achieved this title.

"These results represent the commitment to safety lifeguards in The Woodlands have,"" said Aquatic Superintendent Nick Hluza. ""The guards that compete work a full week at one of our 13 community pools and then spend extra time practicing skills to be ready for these competitions""

Lifeguard teams must qualify to attend the lifeguard championship competition. Only the top three teams from North Texas Guard Games, Texas Superguard, Central Texas Lifeguard Competition and Texas Open Lifeguard Competition qualify. The Woodlands was represented by three teams of the 12 teams that qualified. The team-based competition consisted of scenarios for CPR, first aid, active/passive rescues and spinal management.

Other competing teams were from Schlitterbahn Waterpark in New Braunfels and the Cities of Conroe, New Braunfels, Plano, McKinney, Kerrville and Georgetown.
