On Saturday, October 31, some of the country's elite cross country runners will come to The Woodlands to compete in the 2009 Conference USA Cross Country Championship. The championship will be held at the Bear Branch Sportsfields, 5205 Research Forest Drive, the largest sports complex in The Woodlands, Tx. Hosted by the University of Houston, the events are free and open to the public. While women will compete in a 5k race, men will run an 8k race. More than 200 student-athletes are expected at the competition.
Nick Wolda, President of The Woodlands Convention and Visitors Bureau stated, ""The Woodlands is uniquely positioned for this championship. In addition to outstanding facilities, The Woodlands has outstanding hotels and five million square feet of shopping, dining and entertainment."" Continuing to enhance both men and women's athletic programs, Conference USA is celebrating its 15th year. In East Carolina, Marshall, Houston, Memphis, Rice, Southern Miss, SMU, Tulane, UAB, Tulsa, UCF and UTEP, the conference is home to 12 nationally prominent, tradition-rich members.

The Bear Branch Sportsfields are located in The Woodlands, near the beautiful subdivision, Alden Bridge.
