Homeowners who live in The Woodlands, Tx newest village of Creekside Park will see an elevated law enforcement presence after a homeowners group voted to enter a contract with the Harris County Precinct 4 Constable's Office.

The fledgling final village, which will officially open during a ceremony Oct. 19, is expected to have about 25,000 residents at build out. The Community Associations of The Woodlands already contract with the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office for 30 additional deputies. However, Creekside Park is located in Harris County, which means MCSO deputies cannot patrol there.

Board members approved a plan presented by law enforcement consultant Jimmie L. Dotson that will provide supplemental security in the village through 2010.

Staff will negotiate an agreement with Harris County to put patrol deputies on Creekside's streets on an hourly basis for $1,470 through the remainder of 2007. In mid-2008, the board will re-evaluate and might expand the contract to include one designated deputy who patrols solely in the village.

An exclusive deputy might be added each year, depending on growth.
Richard Derr, a TWA representative appointed from The Woodlands Development Company, said after the meeting he hopes the deputies' presence will thwart construction theft.

""Sometimes we have at least 15 homes under construction on one street at once,"" Derr said. ""If we start ramping up construction and moving more people in, we may have to ramp up law enforcement."" Harris County Precinct 4 Lt. Ronnie Glaze said deputies are ready to begin patrolling as soon as an agreement is signed with the Community Associations of The Woodlands.
