On Saturday, August 21, from 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m., the Academy for Lifelong Learning at Lone Star College-Montgomery in The Woodlands, Tx, a program for the 50-plus retired or semi-retired community, is scheduled to host an open house in The Commons (Building A).
The public is invited, and refreshments and entertainment are scheduled to be provided.
The open house is an opportunity to learn about the new and recurring Academy for Lifelong Learning lectures and classes being offered during the upcoming fall semester.
Also, it's a good time to find out what's happening on campus with construction and other projects, and begin celebrating the program's 10th anniversary as well.
Donna Smith Burns, continuing education program coordinator at Lone Star College-Montgomery, stated ""With nearly 900 members, the ALL program is extremely proud to kick-off this fall semester and begin celebrating 10 years of program growth and success.""
The Instructor of the Year is scheduled to be recognized and the new advisory committee members will be announced at the open house as well.
""The ALL members are a very active and motivated group. They are inspired by this signature program, which continues to get better year after year,"" stated Celyn Chris tophe, director of continuing education at Lone Star College-Montgomery.
Academy for Lifelong Learning is a membership organization filled with seminars, lectures, and discussions directed toward the older, active adult interested in remaining ""plugged in"" to the academic, learning environment.
The classes are informational and informal, and cover a wide range of topics such as art, personal growth, computer technology, languages, history, travel and more.
Chris tophe added, ""We are proud of this program and the impact that it has on the 50-plus population in our community. We anticipate continued success at LSC-Montgomery for this upcoming year.""
A $35 yearly membership fee allows members to take academy courses free of charge or at a minimal rate. September 1 to August 31 is when the duration for the yearly membership.
Within the Lone Star College System, each of the five colleges offer continuing education for their older, active adults through an Academy for Lifelong Learning organization.
With each campus, course program events and offerings vary.
Lone Star College-Montgomery is located in The Woodlands by luxurious neighborhoods like Alden Bridge and Cochran's Crossing.
