In the East Shore, ""The Ellipse,"" a new private garden park has been completed. Also known as the ""Garden District"" of The Woodlands Town Center, East Shore is located near The Woodlands Waterway's shopping, dining and entertainment sites. According to Tim Welbes, President of The Woodlands Development Company, East Shore combines classic architecture, formal garden parks and green spaces with urban living.
The Ellipse will be approximately ½-acre, featuring an elliptical green surrounded by seating and picnic areas. The garden boundaries will be linked by decomposed granite walkways, overcast by 39 oak trees and vivid perpetual flower beds. The park will be the main spot of the new development, called Mid-Lake.
A cast stone and quarry tile fountain 17 ½ feet in diameter, Cantera stone spheres, a Cantera stone obelisk, steel lattice spheres and a steel lattice obelisk makes up the structural design of the garden. The unique nature of The Ellipse and other parks in East Shore is enhanced with terraced brick planters and ornamental stonework. A wide variety of shrubs and plants that can be seen in the park include azaleas, wintergreen boxwoods, bi-color irises, trailing lantana, mondo grass, blue plumbago, Asian and star jasmine, firecracker russelia, wedelia, salvia, and Mexican bush sage.
Clark Condon Associates of Houston designed the park, Gulf Coast Landscape contracted the park, and The Woodlands Development Company built the park.
Welbes said ""East Shore has been designed as a walkable environment, with an abundance of details that reward the pedestrian. Walking bridges, ponds, sculptural elements, stonework, flowering plants, street trees and ornamental streetlamps all combine to create a streetscape that is vibrant, colorful and memorable. The parks have different features that complement the American classical architecture in each neighborhood.""
