Free screenings and information will highlight the first annual Health Fair at Market Street to provide awareness of health maintenance and treatment.
With approximately 60 participating organizations, the event, from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 3 at 9595 Six Pines Drive, is an opportunity for Montgomery County residents to learn about their personal health status and what they can do to improve it.
The South Montgomery County Woodlands Chamber of Commerce is partnering with Market Street and the American Heart Association's Heart Walk to host the Health Education Day. The event will begin with the Heart Walk at 8:30 a.m. and registration starts at 7:30 a.m. ""It doesn't matter if you are rich or poor, your health is something you have to maintain,"" said Arlene Nelson, an event team leader.
""You have choices - how you eat, how you live - and sooner or later we come to terms with the fact that those choices affect our health."" St. Luke's Community Medical Center - The Woodlands Tx is presenting the GE Mobile Health Tour during the event. It will provide women's health information, such as pregnancy care and nutritional cooking, as well as offer screenings for osteoporosis, heart health and breast health.
""We are pleased that GE is partnering with St. Luke's to educate women about the importance of disease prevention and early detection,"" said Debra Sukin, chief executive officer of St. Luke's CMC - The Woodlands. She is also chairing the Heart Walk. For more accurate screenings, people should not eat until after being tested.
Memorial Hermann - The Woodlands Hospital will also offer screenings for adults and children, including body mass index, cholesterol levels and glucose. They can then meet with experts to discuss diabetes, nutrition and weight loss.
Kids will have the opportunity to tour the hospital's Topper Pediatric Transport Ambulance."" It's wonderful to let people know about the health care opportunities they have in our community,"" Memorial Hermann spokesperson Linda Nelson said. ""We're thrilled to be involved.""
