THE WOODLANDS, TX - Legions of volunteers were out in force for The Woodlands' Serving Our Seniors (S.O.S.) annual day of service, this past Saturday, October 13. Organized by Interfaith of The Woodlands, members of philanthropic organizations, employees of local corporations, and residents, performed services for seniors living in the community.
The 8-year program was initiated in 2005, for the benefit of seniors still residing in their home, but who were incapable of performing tasks to maintain their residences. The various projects include cleaning, painting, tree removal, yard work, and light home repair.
The Woodlands Rotary Club and its youth organization, Interact, were among some of the community volunteers. The Interact Club from The Woodlands High School descended on the home of one 85-year old resident, giving her yard a complete make-over.
The Serving Our Seniors program is held twice a year, in March and October, when the climate is most comfortable for outdoor work. Although Saturday's temperature was warmer than usual for this time of year, and the humidity level was high, the weather didn't deter the enthusiasm of the Interact Club and Rotarians.
