THE WOODLANDS, TX - Celebrate America's birthday with a bang at the annual Star-Spangled Salute July 3. This patriotic concert at The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion, which has been a tradition at The Pavilion for 23 years, features the Houston Symphony in a selection of patriotic favorites, led by Principal Pops Conductor Michael Krajewski. The concert is presented by The Woodlands Development Company. Tickets are not required. Gates open at 6:30 p.m.
Wave your flag to the tune of traditional favorites including "Fanfare and Star-Spangled Banner,"" ""God Bless the U.S.A,"" ""America the Beautiful,"" ""God Bless America,"" ""Service Medley,"" and of course, Tchaikovsky's ""1812 Overture"" with cannons blasting from the hill. Other American classics are Themes from ""Silverado,"" ""Thank God I'm a Country Boy,"" ""Deep in the Heart of Texas,"" ""The Yellow Rose of Texas,"" ""And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going"" from '""Dreamgirls,"" and more.
Serving as special guests at the concert are Will Makar and Lekisha Jones. Makar, a resident of The Woodlands, was a contestant on ""American Idol"" in Season 5 as a top 14 finalist and Jones placed fourth on Season 6 of the reality singing competition show.
The Star-Spangled Salute at The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion kicks off at 6:30 p.m. with pre-concert activities for the whole family in the North Plaza. Enjoy patriotic music performed by The Woodlands Show Chorus and interact with Betsy Ross, Uncle Sam and a living Statue of Liberty, as well as Puffy Pine Cone. Guests can register to win Tommy Bahama's ""Best Seats in the House,"" which includes dinner for four at the next arts event. Guests also receive American flags and other patriotic souvenirs at the event.
