The National Recreation and Park Association elected the month of July as Parks and Recreation Month in 1985. Recreation parks and facilities all over the U.S. rejoice by bringing their communities together to volunteer and starting summer programs, become involved in outdoor adventures and become supporters for parks and recreation. Several residents live within 1/4 mile of a park and sometimes, have a pathway outside their back yard in The Woodlands.

July, the peak of the summer, is the ideal time to make the most of the heart of The Woodlands, its parks and recreation. Enjoy the outdoors, take part in whatever sports of your liking, spend quality time with friends and family, or simply relax. The 111 parks and 160 miles of trails in The Woodlands await your discovery.

The Woodlands Parks and Recreation Department is devoted to continually improving the value of life for residents through leisure activities, recreation programming, and maintenance labors. This month, kayak on Lake Woodlands, enjoy a nature hike in the George Mitchell Preserve, go fishing, swim at a new pool, or picnic at a park.
