On Wednesday, November 11, the John Cooper School celebrated the success of the 5th Annual Signatures Author Series in The Woodlands, Tx, with an estimated 700 guests in attendance to hear ""Marley and Me"" author John Grogan. ""Each year, our goal is to have 600-800 guests join us, and we feel fortunate to have met this goal each year. Attendance is always based on interest in the author and we are very pleased to have had the opportunity to host a diverse array of authors each year,"" stated 2009 Signatures Chairperson Isela Atwood. The annual luncheon event has been previously hosted Mitch Albom, Barbara Bush, Dave Barry and Anthony Bourdain.

A chair, donated by Jane Page Design Group and signed by Grogan, was auctioned off and this year raised $1,100, as is a Signatures tradition. The Theodore Alexander, hand-carved walnut chair was taken home by Shirelle Chimenti, the top bidder. Also on hand at the event were pet organizations, nine local authors and representatives from a locally based non-profit organization that relies on volunteers and their therapy dogs to help improve the literacy skills of students, Montgomery Pet Partners (MPP). A part of the profits from the event are set to be given to the MPP R.E.A.D. Program.

Also giving some behind-the-scenes humorous stories surrounding the making of the film based on ""Marley and Me"" starring Jennifer Aniston and Owen Wilson, John Grogan entertained the audience with stories about the writing of his biggest bestseller, ""Marley and Me: Life and Love With the World's Worst Dog."" Also, he spoke about the writing process for ""The Longest Trip Home,"" his memoir, and completed his presentation by taking questions from the audience.

Grogan stated in his speech that after the success of ""Marley and Me,"" he found that young readers wanted to read about Marley as well, so he wrote a young reader's version of the non-fiction book, aimed at Middle School-aged kids. Also, he has written three children's books (fiction) partially based on the shenanigans of a dog named Marley. Grogan read his most recent children's book, ""Marley Goes to School,"" to third through fifith graders at the Cooper campus after his presentation.

John Cooper School is located in The Woodlands, by numerous luxurious communities such as Alden Bridge, Creekside Park, Carlton Woods, Carlton Woods Creekside, Cochran's Crossing, East Shore, Grogan's Mill, Indian Springs, Panther Creek, Sterling Ridge, Town Center and Windsor Lakes.
