THE WOODLANDS, TX- Construction has begun on the first office building in Hughes Landing, a 66-acre mixed-use development on the east end of Lake Woodlands, in The Woodlands Town Center.
The foundation has been laid and the 197,000-square-foot structure, One Hughes Landing, is starting to emerge on the site, Alex Sutton, co-president of The Woodlands Development Co., reported.
On Dec. 11, The Woodlands Development Co., a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Howard Hughes Corp., announced that Layne Christensen Co. will occupy the top two floors of the eight-story building. Layne Christensen, a global water management, construction and drilling company, has leased 51,152 square feet.
Sutton said the building is designed to be LEED silver certified, an internationally recognized green building program. Gensler architectural firm is designing the building.
The building is the first of up to eight office buildings slated for the development in The Woodlands Town Center. Sutton said office buildings will be completed as the market dictates - with both speculative and built-to-suit projects. The development company's plans for the area include a boutique hotel, retail space and an entertainment venue, as well as upscale, multi-family homes in The Woodlands.
