Something green has been missing from The Woodlands, Tx, even with 6,000 acres of open space, 110 parks, 180 miles of hike and bike trails, seven golf courses and abundant forest preserves.
According to Beazer Homes, twenty-plus miles south of The Woodlands lies Houston, Tx, the fourth-largest city in the United States and considered to be the ""energy capital of the world"" but bone-dry when it comes to green homebuilding.
Beazer did its research and found that consumers increasingly are asking for energy savings and green living.
On October 1, all of that changed, with the introduction of Beazer's eSmart Green Homes.
Every to-be-built Beazer home in Houston, with price points between $150,000 and $300,000, will include standard high-performance features that help reduce energy costs.
13 communities total are set to participate, with the remaining Beazer homes in the metropolitan area receiving added eco-friendly features at no additional cost.
Beazer had already decided to build in The Woodlands, while researching its green building program.
Beazer has completed the first of 41 planned high-performance green homes in a neighborhood known as Timarron at Creekside Park.
Beazer is hopeful that the reasonable price tag and the affordable low monthly energy costs will attract first-time buyers and young professionals.
Beazer expects to sell all of the homes in the next 18 months, considering the positive feedback thus far.
In developing a greener product from the foundation up, this is Beazer's most ambitious move yet, and comes after extensive collaboration with engineers, energy experts, building scientists and partnerships.
Beazer is using engineered products that use fewer natural resources and overall, cuts back on job site waste, in constructing the homes.
