THE WOODLANDS, TX- BAM! (Because Art Matters), the community and educational outreach arm of The Woodlands Waterway Arts Council (WWAC), sponsored a Fast Draw Contest in October for approximately 50 seventh and eighth grade students from York, Irons, Knox and McCullough junior high schools and The John Cooper Middle School.
"Students were provided with 11x14 paper, lead pencils, sharpeners and erasers and were given 50 minutes to draw a still life, which in this case was a BAM! can that contained art supplies,"" explained WWAC board member Sonya Hillman who co-chaired the September 29 event with fellow board member Cindy Moss. ""The pieces were judged by our guest artists on composition, proportion, values, skill and technique,"" Hillman said. Local artists Paula Adams, Donna Andrich and Cynthia Reid served as guest judges.
The winners were recognized and awarded Woodlands Mall gift cards. The works of all who participated in the BAM! Fast Draw Contest will be on display from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Spotlight on the Arts Gallery at the Woodlands Mall in The Woodlands. The winning artwork will remain on display in the gallery, located adjacent to the food court on the second level of the mall, until the conclusion of the next BAM! Fast Draw Contest.
