The expansion is just one part of a plan to consolidate its global Tricone drill bit manufacturing at its Woodlands facility. Baker Hughes expects that this expansion will double its production capactiy with all improvements that will be made with the $12 million.
Chad Deaton, chairman, president and chief executive officer of Baker Hughes said, "This creates 130 manufacturing jobs by year's- end and that matches up with 750 that are here already. It's important to note that these are skilled jobs, and it will create other jobs in engineering and other areas.""
With this new expansion, Baker Hughes will be the sixth largest employer in The Woodlands. Salaries for the new jobs range from $35,000 to $45,000. The jobs are also in the manufacturing sector which is unusual for The Woodlands.
Baker Hughes has been in The Woodlands since 1992. The site also employs the company's research and engineering teams. Baker hughes was able to consolidate these jobs by closing a plant in Belfast, Northern Ireland.
