THE WOODLANDS, TX - The Woodlands may end up looking far greener this year, thanks to the 37th Annual Arbor Day celebration held at Rob Fleming Park Creekside on Saturday afternoon.
The celebration, now in its 37th year, featured live music, appearances from 19 different area mascots and a variety of local sponsors. Upwards of 7,000 people came out for the event this year, and each one received seeds and small trees to plant around yards and public areas.
This year, The Woodlands Development Company gave out the highest number of seedlings yet at 121,000 total.The organization usually gives out about 30,000 seeds each year, but the event got an extra boost from The Woodlands Township which donated an extra 91,000 for the event.
This year's Arbor Day Celebration also marked the 6th birthday of Puffy Pine Cone, the official mascot of The Woodlands. Birthday cupcakes were available to attendees as part of the celebration free of charge at this great event in Rob Fleming Creekside, in the village of Creekside Park.
