Creekside Park Grand Opening |
|
|
|
The Village of Creekside Park celebrated its grand opening Oct. 13-28. Creekside Park is set on 3,500 acres south of Spring Creek and it is the first village in Harris county and not just acreage property near The Woodlands.
Creekside Park is planned to be centered around large, outdoor parks and facilities.
The new village is bordered on the north by the 1,700-acre George Mitchell Nature Preserve, which is part of the Spring Creek Greenway project. In addition, the village will include the 75-acre Lake Paloma, where construction has already began.
Creekside Park is the last Village included in The Woodlands' current master plan. When Creekside Park is fully developed, it is expected to add an additional 7,000 homes to The Woodlands Tx.
There's going to be a major trail along Lake Paloma and there are 13 parks in the other areas of the village.
These parks are larger than the average neighborhood parks in The Woodlands. Each neighborhood is focused around one of the parks. A total of about 45 miles of new walking and biking trails are planned in Creekside Park, bringing the total in The Woodlands to about 200 miles.
Participants in the grand opening activities Oct. 20 were able to see one of the new amenities first hand, the Rob Fleming Park.
A number of activities were planned at Fleming Park, including Camp Creekside for Kids. The camp featured a number of craft projects, a petting zoo and planting seeds in the park's Bluebonnet Meadow. In addition there was hot air balloon rides, rock climbing walls and a number of water-related activities in the park's pond. A free concert was planned for 3-6 p.m. at the park as well.
