Woodlands to hand out Seedlings at Arbor Day

Celebrating the Arbor Day, and the 37th anniversary tradition, The Woodlands at Creekside Park village, will hand out 37,000 seedlings in 12 varieties as part of the festivities. The celebration will be January 31, at 10 am to 2 pm. There will also be inflatable rides and rock balls, pony rides, petting zoo, face painting, and Musical entertainment by local talents. Also, you will be able to say 'Hello' to 'Puffy', the Woodlands mascot. This is a free event.

The Nature Conservancy of Texas Awards The Woodlands Development Company

The Nature Conservancy of Texas gave a special award to The Woodlands Development Company at the group's 16th annual Houston Conservation Leadership Awards Luncheon.

The George Mitchell Nature Preserve in The Woodlands in Creekside Park was the receiver of this award for vision and development. This Nature Preserve was named after The Woodlands' founder, George Mitchell and is a gorgeous 1,700 nature preserve.

The Spring Creek Greenway Project is an initiative of Montgomery and Harris counties; the plan is to conserve more than 33 miles along Spring Creek for a regional park and nature trail system which will extend from the San Jacinto River in Humble to Burroughs Park in Spring. The George Mitchell Nature Preserve in The Woodlands Texas is a major link in this project and thus received this honoring award.

The Award The Woodlands received is not bestowed annually, it is only presented when there is an individual achievement and it warrants recognition.

The Woodlands Offers $2,000 to New Homebuyers

On October 25, 2008 The Woodlands started a special holiday promotion that offers a $2,000 Woodforest National Bank MasterCard to new home buyers of selected homes in the community if they purchased by December 31, 2008 and close by February 28, 2009.

"Home for the Holidays" is the name of this new program which is also offering incentives of up to $50,000 from nearly all The Woodlands homebuilders. The homes that pertain to this program have a price range from the $150,000 to more than $3 million. The buyer will also receive a free one-year family membership to the South Montgomery County YMCA. The New Rob Fleming Aquatic Center

The Grand Opening of the new Rob Fleming Aquatic Center in Creekside Park was only a few days ago. The Aquatic Center has been the latest addition to The Woodlands' community swimming pool system and it has been welcomed by many residents of the area. The Rob Fleming Aquatic Center is designed with all family members in mind, it has the perfect balance between adventure and relaxation.

There are many characteristics that make the new aquatic center in The Woodlands an amazing one. There is a 500 foot lazy river with calm turns that let you relax and unwind in these beautiful summer days. There is also a 150 gallon dump bucket, the largest in the community which is located next to a shallow play area as well. And for those who love to swim, there are three lanes just for you.

There is tons of space to take in the sun in the grass or deck areas surrounding the aquatic center. This pool is also available for rental for residents and non residents. There is a charge of $750 for residents and $950 for non-residents. The rental hours are from 8 to 10 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays and on Sundays from 6 to 8 p.m.

New Construction of K-6 School in Creekside Park

In the newest Village of The Woodlands known as Creekside Park, a new construction is under way. Tomball ISD is beginning the construction of the new school that will be based within Creekside Village. This new school will be K-6 grades and will be set on a 12.9 acre site, it is planned for opening for the school year of 2009-2010.

Tomball ISD has also bought two other sites within the Village of Creekside Park in The Woodlands. These two other schools will be located on the east and west sides of Kuykendahl Road. This site that will be currently under construction is located near the entrance of Creekside Park off Gosling Road. It is near the Rob Fleming Park and close to all the new neighborhoods in the Village. The school will have a Craftsman style that will go perfectly with the rest of the Village. The architect for this new school will be PBK and they will plan to begin construction this summer.

There will be a second K-6 school in Creekside Park and has been planned for opening in the fall of 2011. Tomball ISD will provide excellent education for the students living in Creekside Village in The Woodlands, Texas.

New hiking trail opens in The Woodlands

A big slice of the natural world soon will be available to residents as the George Mitchell Nature Preserve hiking trail prepares to open to the public. A grand opening and ribbon cutting for the two mile trail located off Flintridge Drive is set for late February. The trail, designed for many outdoor pursuits including hiking, biking and birdwatching, is part of the 12,000-acre Spring Creek Greenway Project. It is a joint effort between The Woodlands Development Company, Montgomery County Precinct 3, The Woodlands Association and the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department Recreational Trails Grant Program.

The partnership oversees the preservation of forest on both sides of the creek."On the development side, construction of natural surface trails, bridges, drainage improvements, trailhead parking and signage were added to the preserve," said Bob Bruce, manager of recreation facilities development for The Woodlands Development Co.

According to Robert W. Collins, special council to Precinct 3 Commissioner Ed Chance, the project took several years of planning. "There will be nature trails in the park," Collins said. "We are working on a trail that heads off of Flintridge Drive and goes to Bedias Lake." The area will be open from dawn until dusk. The trails from the preserve can be reached from the 20-acre Rob Fleming Park located in Creekside Park.

Rob Fleming Park site of inaugural Muddy Trails 5K

Rob Fleming Park will be the site of the inaugural Muddy Trails 5K race Feb. 23 at Creekside Park. The race course will wind through the George Mitchell Preserve Trails, located on 1,800 wooded acres adjacent to the park. The race is recommended for runners of all skill levels, who are at least 10 years or older. "It will be a fun run for families," said Willie Folks, assistant race director.

"They can come out and enjoy the trail system and the post race festivities." The run will be followed by a party at the park. A band playing zydeco, a genre of Cajun-influenced music, will perform while spicy crawfish, or "mud bugs," are distributed among guests. "We will have a crawfish boil and it will include the ritual of potatoes and corn and drinks and a band during post party festivities," Folks said.The event will raise money for the nonprofit Woodlands Recreational Center. "We are trying to become a self-sufficient program," Folks said.

The race will begin at 8 a.m. with volunteers arriving at about 6 a.m. to set up. Folks said organizers are seeking volunteers for the race. He said if the event is successful, it will continue every year and could expand into a longer race as the trail system develops. Folks said he hopes to create the same feeling about this race that many residents have for the local 10 for Texas, a race held in October and CB&I TRI, The Woodlands Triathlon. "We hope this will have some of the same feeling," he said. "Well-organized and a great atmosphere."
