The Woodlands, Tx is scheduled to host its annual Arbor Day Celebration from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Rob Fleming Park in the
Village of Creekside Park. Also, mascot of The Woodlands, Puffy Pine Cone, is set to celebrate his birthday at this event.
In eight different varieties, an estimated 31,000 tree seedlings will be given away, continuing a 33-year tradition that began in 1977.
The selections of trees include: Eastern Redbud, Loblolly Pine, River Birch, Red Maple, Southern Sweetbay Magnolia, Crabapple, White Oak and Yellow Poplar.
Guests may register at the event to win one of five, seven-gallon native trees, in addition to receiving free tree seedlings. The drawings are set to take place hourly and the winners of all drawings must be present.
"Over the years, the developer and sponsors have given away approximately 875,000 tree seedlings to help perpetuate the forested environment. We encourage residents of the community to come out and enjoy the Arbor Day festivities and receive new tree seedlings," stated Vreeland-Wendt.
The Woodlands Convention & Visitors Bureau, The Woodlands Development Company, the South Montgomery County YMCA and The Brickman Group, Ltd. sponsor this free celebration.
Free pony rides, giant inflatable rides and rock walls, hay rides, petting zoo and face painting are set to entertain the crowd. Also, local talent will provide musical entertainment as well.
At 1:00 p.m., Puffy's birthday celebration is scheduled to begin with mascot friends including Clutch from the Houston Rockets. Also, children will enjoy free birthday cupcakes at the birthday party as well.
