The Woodlands College Park High School Ready to Host Teen Book Festival

On Saturday, January 23, more than 1,500 teenagers are expected at The Woodlands College Park High School for the sixth annual Montgomery County Teen Book Festival in The Woodlands, Tx.
College Park Librarian Pam Cooper stated, "We're getting broader participation from communities outside of Montgomery County because they are able to see the value of the festival."
With book sales from many vendors, the event kicks off at 11:00 a.m. There is scheduled to be music, courtesy of the high school's jazz band. Students can choose their favorites and hear more about them in separate breakout sessions later that afternoon.
Others are local to The Woodlands, including Oak Ridge High School English teacher Joy Preble, while some of the authors are traveling in from other cities.
"People really seem to like (characters) Anne and Ethan. There's just something fascinating about Anastasia, all things Russian, the romance, the fairy tale. There's something for everybody," Preble stated.
The book festival will be emceed by an Academy of Science and Technology student who recently self-published her own 320-page sci-fi fantasy, College Park High School Senior Shirlene Obuobi.
Obuobi stated, "Devoted," now available online at Barnes & Noble and Borders, is "based on the fact emotions can be dangerous."
The main character is somebody Obuobi came up with when she was in eighth grade but for whom Obuobi just recently found a plot line, Abigail. When she was in fourth grade, Obuobi wrote her first book.
"It was something small that my parents got bound for me at Kinko's. It was about a girl and her adventures with her other friends. It's fun to go back and look at it now, especially because the title has nothing to do with the story line," Obuobi stated.
The Woodlands College Park High School is located in The Woodlands, by wonderful neighborhoods like Cochran's Crossing and East Shore.
